Bedford Bicycle Advisory Committee
(approved 2007 Nov 14)
Sept. 12, 2007, 7:40pm, Town Hall, Bedford, MA
Present: Terry Gleason, Ray Ruetenik, Joel Parks, Ralph Hammond, Charlie Webster, and Holly Webster
Minutes of the last month were approved.
Continuing:
-
Police Accident report -
As Bob is not here we will postpone this topic. We should emphasize that there have been no bicycle accidents reported on the Minuteman Trail in Bedford, as opposed to 25 on the streets in the last five years.
-
Mile Post signs -
Ralph is using 4x4 wooden posts to make signs for the Trails Committee and has a steady supply. Ralph noted that we have to notify "Dig Safe" before doing any digging. Joel called Rich Warrington, but hasn't heard back about painting the line at the border. Terry will make up a draft for the signs to be posted on the gates at Wiggins Ave. and bring them to the next meeting.
-
MMB Extension -
Terry will write a letter to the Conservation Commission taking up each objection that they had put forth earlier in a letter to us. Ralph reported on the brush and tree clearing after speaking to Rich Warrington today. Rich is in favor of removing the trees. A 14 ft. clearance will be done this winter. BARC, the tree committee is 100% in favor of doing this. Ralph says that Rich suggests clearing the brush back, adding stone dust where it is needed and let a buildup of people users happen over the next year or so. We agree with Rich's evaluation and will postpone the town meeting decision. We all know how important it is to get the selectmen in favor.
-
Safe Routes to School -
Another item to await Bob's input.
-
Rec. Dept Fall Bike Training Program -
Joel will meet with the Rec. Dept. to get a better status report for our next meeting. Susan Grieb is definitely in favor of doing this program in the spring.
-
NGRT washouts -
Chris Lennon will become the steward for the NGRT. No further action on which to report. Terry volunteered to be the steward for the extension.
-
MCC Cross Bike Race -
There will be a class for teenagers and they can sign up that day. Joel will forward the info to Terry. It will be on Sept. 23, Sunday. Joel will ask Ted Packard his plans for publicity. There are various start times including one for Masters at 11am.
-
Three Apples Storytelling Festival -
We will again have the bike corral. Joel suggested that those of us helping to set up arrive at 8:30 - 8:45am.
-
Substandard Bike Racks at Blue Ribbon Plaza -
As Holly has not heard from Mr. Joly, she will email him again, and ask if he wants pictures.
