MMB - Extension -
Several of us attended the surface meeting in Sudbury where George Batchelor, a Mass Highway landscaper spoke about different possible surfaces for the extension. Rich Warrington also attended, and we now believe that Mass Highway will not pay for a non-paved surface. Ralph says that the Town of Bedford needs to undergo a learning curve about how good it will be for Bedford to have this linear greenway available to all. He would like to take several months of Sunday afternoons, before the next Special Town Meeting, at the library to show the videos he has. Holly had been in communication with Rails-to-Trails and may be able to provide another. Bob wants to have a "Bike to School" day. Bob would like to get all kids from the fifth grade up to be independently able to get around town before they are handed car keys. Terry would like to have at least one more letter to the Minuteman newspaper. The Pan-Mass Bike for kids had to ride partly on Route 62 because of the muddy conditions of the present extension. Terry will get the list of parents of the riders in the Pan-Mass Bike for kids to find a person to write such a letter. Ralph asked Mark to get all the selectmen to be strongly in favor of paving the extension. Mark was not clearly in favor without more information. We decided to vote in favor of the $15,000 that the CPC will provide, but without instigating discussion. If people get up to speak against, or ask specific questions, someone on our committee will respond. Terry will get a few neighbors, who are not on our committee to speak at Town Meeting if necessary. If the money is turned down, Mark says we should approach the selectmen to get on their agenda to plan the next step.

Boardwalk to Washington Street to Middle School -
The term should be "bridge" over Elm Brook. The Surveyor's map is ready to present to Nat Brown. The right-of-way is also ready. Bob reports that the meeting to go ahead will be within the next two weeks.

Safe Routes to School - Transportation Committee -
No report at this time.
-
Police Accident Report -
No accidents within February. Ralph told us of one that happened today at Page Road and Hemlock Lane. The biker was all right, but the driver was quite shaken and would surely vote to get any bicycles off our roads. By our next meeting, Bob hopes to have all accident reports from 2001. He has most, and (Bedford Detective) Scott Jones is helping to fill in the rest.

Safe Routes to School -
Bob reported that Caesar Jones Way has direct access to the extension. What we need is a crosswalk from 10 Acre Drive, and for that we need sidewalks on both sides of Concord Road. It already exists on one side and we need to put in sidewalks for three lots and then we can request a road crossing there. He will go ahead with this project. He is also putting together a Bedford Bicycle Plan. He is working with the Trails Committee and will try to update a map that he got from Joel who got it from Adrienne St. John. Bob will contact the people who made such a map from and for Lexington.
Next meeting - Apr. 11, 7:30pm, Town Center Building, in the Flint Room.
Meeting adjourned 8:45pm.
